This guest couldn't give an example either where things were lagging or not working, just that (I think we had 5up5down back then) was bad. Because for anything you'd normally expect guests in a business hotel to do (work, mail, browse, some gaming) our 10mbps allocated to each user is plenty. All they do is run a speedtest and start peeping based on the number, not on their actual online experience. I've had some guest complaining that our internet is bad. HD streaming is fine with as little as 5-10mbps, office work is a breeze on that. We ended up losing a lot of government business because they can't work on their secure computers while connected to wifi.įirst of all, what are you doing for work that needs more than 30mbps? Ain't latency the nr1 stat for gaming? The only annoying part of this was that they either didn't put the wires back or put them back wrong and I was the one who had to figure out which wires went were when a guest complained one of the computers was broken. I honestly don't understand why every hotel is disabling the ethernet ports, we ended up having people bring their laptops to the business center and plugging it in to the wire to get access to better speeds. So it might have to be a charge if they can do it.īut the business center speeds are higher because those are wired. But then we found out that it was costing the hotel a lot of extra money and they made us disable it. I was able to create one for myself and fellow managers to use so we could access things on our phones to do our jobs better (there was an app for use to create work orders). But some places restrict that ability to way upper management (like off property management). If the hotel has the ability to create a new wifi code then they might be able to create one for you. r/hotelemployees Not a place for market research unless you are offering payment. Alas, it doesn’t do quite as good of a job of letting you know if the WiFi is free or paid - and given that some of these places will try to hit you up for upwards of $30 a day, that’s important to know.Welcome to askhotels where you can ask your questions of the various hotel employees who are here and happy to assist you. While the above site seems to be getting bigger quick thanks to a recent burst of buzz, an alternative (spotted by Giz) called SpeedSpot seems to have been around a bit longer and thus has a bigger database. If you’re currently in a hotel, it can automatically pin down your location and help you run a speed test. As the name implies, Hotel Wi-Fi Test encourages its users to go to hotels and… test the WiFi. Worse yet, the larger a hotel is, the more space they have to cover, and the more people they’ll have trying to cram onto the same poorly configured network - so counter intuitively, bigger/fancier hotels always seem to have worse WiFi. Sure, you’re paying $400 bucks a night - but you want to stream Netflix? Get outta here. As long as they can check that little “WiFi Available” box on the amenities list, they’re happy. This site won’t help you with all of those, but it will help you with that last one.īad WiFi might as well not exist, but most hotels don’t really seem to care about connectivity quality. ![]() Is it known for bed bugs? Is the “heated pool” only heated during summer when the sun is out? How many ghosts live there? How fast is the WiFi? There are lots of things that review sites should rank hotels on, but don’t.
